Kristen Ciccarelli’s ‘Crimson Moth’ Book Series In Development For TV Adaptation With ‘The 100’s Kim Shumway Penning Script

EXCLUSIVE: Georgia Lee (The Expanse), Joe Henderson (Lucifer) and Chad Kennedy have acquired the rights to the internationally bestselling fantasy romance Crimson Moth series by Kristen Ciccarelli. The trio are developing the project for television with Kim Shumway (The 100) adapting. The script is currently being shopped to buyers.

In addition, Wednesday Books, an imprint under St. Martin’s Publishing Group, a division of Macmillan Publishers, has acquired books three and four in the bestselling Crimson Moth series in a major deal. Book three, Dark Descent, is slated for publication in August 2027. Foreign rights have already been sold in Brazil, the UK, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden, and more.

Ciccarelli’s Crimson Moth series began with Heartless Hunter, a cat-and-mouse romance between a witch hiding in plain sight and the witch hunter determined to uncover her. A breakout BookTok favorite, the Crimson Moth series became an instant bestseller, has been translated into 24 languages, and has sold over one million copies in the USA and Canada alone.

The Crimson Moth books fall into the vein of the popular romantasy genre that includes the likes of Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing in the works as a TV series adaptation at Prime Video and Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash in the works with Sony Pictures Television. Hulu and 20th Century recently set a deal to develop a television series adaptation of Sheila Masterson’s The Poison Daughter. Devney Perry’s Shield of Sparrows, which is the first in a planned romantasy trilogy saga, is becoming a feature film with Amazon MGM and Premeditated Productions.

The film/tv deal for Ciccarelli was brokered by UTA, with book deal representation under Danielle Burby at Mad Woman Literary (U.S.) and Taryn Fagerness at Taryn Fagerness Agency (foreign).
