Grupo Televisa (TV) said Tuesday a consortium owned equally by the company and Fintech Holdings has agreed to acquire AT&T’s (T) wireless telecommunications business in Mexico for $2B, subject to certain adjustments.
The consortium expects to finance the acquisition through a combination of cash on hand and non-recourse secured debt.
AT&T Mexico, the country’s second-largest mobile operator, had approximately 24.7M wireless subscribers as of Dec. 31, 2025. The business reported consolidated revenue of 85.4B pesos and operating income of 1.4B pesos for the year.
Televisa expects to account for the acquisition as an investment in a joint venture using the equity method under applicable IFRS accounting standards.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
TV shares jumped over 7% on Wednesday following the announcement.
