The Inbetweeners legends confirmed for brand-new 4-part comedy series

The Inbetweeners co-stars Joe Thomas and James Buckley are reuniting for a brand-new Channel 4 comedy travelogue, in which the pair hit the road to work out how – and how not – to be a grown up.

Thomas and Buckley first found fame as Simon and Jay in Channel 4's The Inbetweeners, and they now return to the broadcaster older but, in the channel's own words, "not necessarily any wiser".

Joe and James: Boys to Men sees them on a mission to figure out how exactly you make the most of midlife without a crisis.

With Thomas recently entering his 40s and Buckley joining him there next year, the duo are set to embark on an "epic-ish" journey to work out what that milestone means and what is acceptable for them to be doing now they are supposedly adults.

The synopsis continues: "With very different approaches to life – Joe with a more introspective and esoteric view versus James, who takes a more straight-talking, no-nonsense approach – the pair will embark on a road-trip full of funny and unconventional adventures as they search for people and experiences that might give them some answers to their big (mid) life questions."

Vivienne Molokwu, commissioning editor at Channel 4, said: "Whether you rewatch an ep of The Inbetweeners or catch them on their hilarious podcast, the chemistry between Joe and James is undeniable.

"Their genuine friendship and different perspectives on life make them both engaging and entertaining so I can't wait to see them explore the very modern question of what to do when you're too old to be young but too young to be old."

Will Macdonald of production company Idle Industries commented: "As someone who could quite frankly watch Joe and James decide which takeaway to order, the thought of seeing them set off in a small car to get answers to big existential questions, and crack the meaning of midulthood is nothing short of thrilling. And hilarious."

The commission arrives during a busy period for the duo. Both are also reprising their most famous roles for Netflix's The Inbetweeners 3, which reunites the original cast, with Simon Bird and Blake Harrison also returning as Will and Neil.

The pair also co-host a podcast together called Joe and James Fact Up.

Joe and James: Boys to Men will air on Channel 4, while The Inbetweeners 3 is coming to Netflix. You can sign up to Netflix from £7.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky TV and Virgin Media.
