PETALING JAYA, Oct 25 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke today said taxi drivers in Melaka will receive RM1,000 in assistance on Monday, with the aid funded through proceeds from the sale of special “H” vehicle registration numbers.

Speaking at Pakatan Harapan's (PH) candidate announcement event in Melaka last night, the DAP secretary-general said the assistance formed part of the federal government's efforts to direct public funds towards initiatives that benefit ordinary Malaysians.

“To the taxi drivers in Melaka, I will distribute the RM1,000 to you on Monday,” Loke said, according to the New Straits Times (NST).

Loke said the payment would be funded through proceeds from the sale of special “H” vehicle registration numbers, which raised RM91 million.

He said the aid demonstrated how government revenue could be redirected to benefit the public, adding that Putrajaya remained committed to targeted assistance programmes aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures.

Separately, Loke said Pakatan Harapan remained upbeat about its prospects in the Melaka election despite its recent setback in Negri Sembilan.
