KLUANG: The Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) has confirmed that LED display screens across the town were hacked yesterday, resulting in pornographic images and videos being broadcast.

MPK said in a statement that it would lodge a police report to enable a full investigation into the incident.

"Following this, further investigations are being conducted in collaboration with the vendor to identify the cause of the incident, in addition to carrying out recovery measures and strengthening system security.

"MPK apologises for any inconvenience and distress caused to the Kluang community following this incident," the statement said.

According to the statement, MPK takes the matter seriously, strongly condemns the act, and will pursue legal action against any party attempting to tarnish its reputation and image.

Meanwhile, Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the matter.

"For your information, the MPK LED system was hacked and MPK took immediate action by shutting down all LED screens," he said.

Earlier, the incident went viral on social media and WhatsApp groups after several MPK LED screens were seen displaying explicit material.

Several residents around the town areas witnessed the displays, sparking public concern.

Many called on MPK to carry out an immediate probe to identify those responsible.

Among the locations reported to have shown the inappropriate content were Dataran Tasik Kluang, Taman Intan in Kluang town, and areas along the road towards Kahang.

"This needs to be thoroughly investigated and action taken against those involved. It is truly embarrassing, given the Kluang Bahagia status," netizen Azman Halil said.
