The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued eight people after a motorbanca capsized off the coast of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.
In a statement on Saturday, the PCG said that the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Sibunag conducted a successful search and rescue operation.
“The vessel reportedly encountered big waves while underway, causing it to drift and capsize approximately 1 kilometer from the shoreline of Pulupandan,” the Coast Guard District Western Visayas said in a Facebook post.
“Responding Coast Guard personnel immediately launched rescue operations, and all eight passengers were safely rescued,” it added.
The incident occurred on October 29, just days before the Undas peak travel period, when more people are expected to travel locally and abroad.
The PCG reminded all sea travelers of the following:
- Exercise caution
- Monitor weather and sea conditions
- Always wear life jackets
- Avoid sailing during rough seas
The public is also reminded to report any maritime incidents to the nearest Coast Guard station or sub-station. —VBL, GMA News
