Uche Yara shares her ‘Bodyscanner pre-show picks’ in exclusive playlist to accompany The Cover

NME’s latest star of The Cover, Uche Yara, has created an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Austria-born, Berlin-based artist is on this week’s (October 26) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Uche Yara’s profile here, written by David Renshaw and featuring photography by Tom J. Johnson.

The musician has curated a playlist featuring songs to listen to before her ‘Bodyscanner’ gigs, including tracks from Princess Nokia, Little Simz, Leikeli47, Doechii, Alewya, and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

In The Cover, Uche Yara discusses her “intuitive” approach to making music and having her creativity encouraged as a child. “I was so lucky to be led by teachers that pushed this inner child in me,” she says, crediting those same teachers for instilling rigour and an avant-garde fearlessness in her. “These are the people that laid the soil where everything is growing right now.”

Elsewhere, she shares insight into her debut album ‘Bodyscanner’, which arrived in September and engages with subjects such as the climate crisis and historical injustice head-on. “Our globe is burning – it is horrific,” she says. “I was feeling it in my body and wanted to capture it in the lyrics.”
