Translate

A crime thriller hailed as "ridiculous on almost every level" is now streaming for free on Channel 4. Copshop, directed by Joe Carnahan, follows conman Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo), who is on the run from the mob and the FBI.

In a bit to hide from hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler), Teddy deliberately gets himself arrested by rookie cop Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) and is taken to a remote police station in Nevada. However, Bob tracks Teddy down and gets himself locked up in a neighbouring cell, with further chaos ensuring when psychopathic hitman Anthony Lamb (Toby Huss) arrives at the station.

As bloodshed and corruption unfold, Officer Young must get to the bottom of the escalating violence.

Copshop was released in the UK in 2021 by STXfilms and received overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

It currently holds an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: "It doesn't add many new ingredients to the genre, but action fans in the mood for an old-school thriller will be happy to buy what Copshop is selling."

In Digital Spy's review, we said: "Copshop might not exactly rewrite the rulebook, but it's aware enough of its tone to (mostly) hit the mark of what fans would want from it – and sometimes that's more than enough."

Ready Steady Cut wrote: "Copshop is relentlessly entertaining and has a breakout performance from Alexis Louder."

AARP Movies for Grownups said: "Fast, funky and ballistic, Copshop references the '70s cop actioner and its Western roots, letting the bullets ricochet and the genres collide."

Vulture thought: "Copshop inhabits an enviable Goldilocks Zone for movies about dudes getting their heads blown off. It's clever but not cute, savage but not depressing, and cartoonish but not asinine."

Meanwhile, Slant commented: "With its pulpy thrills, hyperbolic dialogue, charismatic scumbags, and a score heavy in electronic effects and percussion, the film effortlessly coasts on a gnarly old-school vibe."

The Hollywood Reporter wrote: "Copshop is ridiculous on almost every level, but damn if it isn't a whole lot of fun."

Copshop is streaming now on Channel 4.
