Outlander: Blood of My Blood tease upcoming season 2 episodes: "We deal with some really heavy topics"

We're a few episodes into the new season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood and whilst a lot has already unfolded, there's set to be plenty more to come.
As Outlander fans will know, the series has never beat around the bush when it comes to certain topics – and it looks as though Blood of My Blood will be following in the footsteps of the original show.
Teasing what's to come in the rest of the second season for her and Jamie Roy's characters, Harriet Slater – who plays Ellen MacKenzie – told Radio Times: "I think it's heavy for both of them. I think it took turns that neither of us expected it to go in, which was challenging as an actor because it's a lot emotionally.
"We deal with some really heavy topics, as Outlander often does. It never shies away from that kind of thing, which I think is good sometimes to show things on screen that aren't often shown on screen, that maybe need to be talked about more that people would benefit from talking about more. So hopefully, what they go through will make people feel a little bit less alone."

As for what Slater could be hinting at, we don't yet know! But from what she's saying, there's a whole knotty and complex round of emotions we're set to unpick relating to Ellen and Brian. So far, the pair have been separated and have had to put their plans to run away on hold for the sake of the Jacobite uprising.
Ellen, as ever, is left to think on her feet as the men in her life continue to try to undermine her intelligence whilst Brian takes to the battlefield. But with the star-crossed lovers being apart from one another, could trouble be brewing for them both in different ways? It seems very likely.
Slater has already teased that this season sees "higher stakes" for the pair, sharing: "It's life and death, but on an even bigger scale."

We already know that this instalment of Outlander: Blood of My Blood has seen a new side to Brian as he's stepped up in more ways than one, now no longer being afraid to make his feelings known and getting into fights in the process.
Roy previously told Radio Times of that new dynamic to Brian: "I think season 1, Brian spent a lot of the time kind of getting pushed over a lot of the time when he could have stood up for himself – but he decided not to. He decided to restrain himself because of the effect that could have had on the people closest to him."
He went on: "Now he's like, ‘Yeah, if you're going to push me, I'll come and I'll push you back. I'll push you back harder. Like I've got nothing to lose now’. Well, I've got everything to lose now. But that's worth fighting and putting everything on the line for."
