Lee D’Amato is a writer born, raised, and based in Queens, New York. With collective thousands of hours in games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Elden Ring, and The Legend of Zelda, he's now writes game features, guides, and reviews for Screen Rant, but has covered a wide range of topics, including ancient history, affordable travel, and overall health.

A Halloween-themed expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2 is here, and it's finally official, even if it's not the Undead Nightmare follow-up you were hoping for. Post-launch, the original Red Dead Redemption got one of the most perfect DLC releases in video game history: the campy, horror-themed expansion Undead Nightmare.

Undead Nightmare was well-received in its day and retrospectively, but developers Rockstar Games haven't tried anything of the sort since; there was no Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption 2, despite clear player demand. And with Rockstar pretty much all in on the upcoming GTA 6, it looks unlikely they'll do so at this point.

Now, though, Red Dead Online has taken up the mantle with its annual halloween events. This year's festivities include Dead of Night, a new, limited-time showdown mode that allows you take on waves of zombies for extra rewards. While Dead of Night debuted during the 2020 season, it's back right in time for Halloween 2026.

Dead of Night is a PvPvE mode for Red Dead Online, in which you face off simultaneously against waves of zombies and other players. You get some points for taking out zombies, and even more for your human rivals. If you're able to find the Night Stalker mask, you can gain supernatural abilities that give you an advantage in combat.

Dead of Night is one of two featured series during the month of October, alongside the similar Fear of the Dark. By playing throughout the month, you can pick up extra rewards, including cash, gold, and XP multipliers on featured game modes.

While you're playing RDO this month, you can also pick up some extra rewards in the Strange Tales of the West mission series, a chain of four missions that have you investigating supernatural rumors across the map. This runs through November 2, and gives you four times the usual RDO$, gold, and XP.

In addition, the wave-based agame mode All Hallows' Call to Arms is paying out triple rewards all month. If you manage to complete all ten maps by November 2, you'll get the orange Benbow Jacket for your RDO character. A few other pieces of limited-time clothing are also returning: the Pelt Half Chaps, Tied Pants, Folwell Hat, and Prieto Poncho.

A new community-inspired outfit is also available through the in-game catalog or at certain tailors. Combining a Worn Flap Hat, Leather Duster, Laborer Overshirt or Lautnip Shirt, Leather Pants, Military Half Chaps, Leather Gloves, Bandana, and Worn Roper Boots will give you an all-black look to sport this Halloween.

This event also marks the return of RDO's Halloween Pass 2, an in-game upgrade path with 15 ranks. As you participate in Halloween events, you can pick up a variety of spooky clothing pieces, disguises, and accessories. Your progress is saved from past Halloween events if you want to pick up where you left off. A few free items are also available throughout the month, giving you a Halloween-themed incentive to return to Red Dead Redemption 2.
