Red rainfall warning up over parts of Zambales, Bataan

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised a red rainfall warning over parts of Zambales and Bataan as of 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 amid rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”

The warning covers San Narciso, San Felipe, San Marcelino, Castillejos, San Antonio, Subic and Olongapo in Zambales, as well as Dinalupihan in Bataan.

The red warning means rainfall of at least 30 millimeters (mm) is expected within an hour, which could cause serious flooding in vulnerable areas.

An orange rainfall warning was raised over the following areas:

• Tarlac
• Pampanga
• Zambales (Botolan, Cabangan, Candelaria, Iba, Masinloc, Palauig, and Santa Cruz)
• Bataan (Abucay, Bagac, Balanga, Limay, Mariveles, Morong, Orani, Orion, Pilar, Samal, and Hermosa); and
• Bulacan (Hagonoy, Calumpit, Paombong, Malolos, Plaridel, Pulilan, Guiguinto, Balagtas, Baliuag, Bustos, Pandi, Angat, and Bulakan)

The orange warning indicates that rainfall between 15 mm and 30 mm is expected within an hour and may last up to two hours, which may bring “threatening” flooding in vulnerable areas.

A yellow rainfall warning was also raised over the following areas:

• Metro Manila
• Rizal
• Cavite
• Bulacan (Bocaue, Meycauayan, San Jose del Monte, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Marilao, Norzagaray, Obando, San Ildefonso, San Miguel, San Rafael, and Santa Maria)
• Laguna (Cabuyao, Santa Rosa, Binan, San Pedro), Batangas(Laurel, Lemery, Calaca, Balayan, Tuy, Nasugbu, Lian, and Calatagan); and
• Nueva Ecija (Cuyapo, Nampicuan, Guimba, Licab, Zaragoza, San Antonio, and Cabiao)

The yellow warning indicates that rainfall between 7.5 mm and 15 mm is expected within an hour and may last up to two hours, which may likewise bring flooding in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains were expected over the following areas on Friday morning:

• Quezon (Candelaria, Dolores, San Antonio, Sariaya, Tiaong, General Nakar, Tayabas, Infanta, Lucban, Lucena, Mauban, Pagbilao, Real, Sampaloc, Agdangan, Atimonan, Burdeos, Jomalig, Padre Burgos, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Plaridel, Polillo, Perez, Alabat, and Quezon)
• Laguna (Alaminos, Bay, Calauan, Calamba, Liliw, Los Banos, Luisiana, Magdalena, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Pagsanjan, Pila, Rizal, San Pablo, Santa Cruz, Victoria, Cavinti, Famy, Kalayaan, Lumban, Mabitac, Paete, Pakil, Pangil, Santa Maria, and Siniloan)
• Batangas (Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Batangas City, Bauan, Tanauan, Cuenca, Ibaan, Lipa, Lobo, Mabini, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, San Juan, San Luis, San Nicolas, San Pascual, Santa Teresita, Santo Tomas, Taal, Talisay, Taysan, and Tingloy); and
• Nueva Ecija (Quezon and Aliaga)

In the agency’s morning forecast earlier on Friday morning, Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the southwest monsoon or habagat continued to prevail over parts of the western section of Luzon. /dp
