Planning Minister: Luxor has unique comparative advantages, promising economic prospects

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom said Luxor is one of Upper Egypt’s promising governorates, with unique comparative advantages underpinned by its diverse economic activities, particularly tourism and agriculture.
Rostom made the remarks during a field visit to Luxor, pursuant to presidential directives to monitor development projects that directly affect citizens’ lives across the country. He was received by Luxor Governor Abdel Mottaleb Emara.
The visit falls within the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s efforts to monitor implementation of the economic and social development plan, in line with directives from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to ensure that development projects are implemented according to schedule, Rostom said.
He added that the visit aims to support state efforts to improve living standards and ensure that public investments contribute directly to the development of various sectors.
The minister said the visit includes inspections of a number of ongoing development and vital projects across the governorate, particularly in the infrastructure, drinking water and sanitation, education, and healthcare sectors, with the aim of advancing comprehensive development and improving the quality of life for Luxor residents.
It will also provide an opportunity to assess project completion rates on the ground, identify potential challenges, and address the governorate’s needs, reflecting the priority the state attaches to development projects in Upper Egypt, Rostom noted.
He also highlighted the integration of projects under Luxor’s economic and social development plan with the presidential Decent Life initiative, stressing the government’s commitment to completing the initiative’s first phase in full and preparing for the launch of its second phase.
The initiative represents a key pillar in upgrading infrastructure and public services in Egyptian villages and rural areas, he said.
The visit is part of a series of extensive field tours that the Minister of Planning and Economic Development has been conducting across various governorates this year.
Previous visits included Sharqiya, Monufia, and Beheira, as part of efforts to enhance monitoring of development projects under the national plan.
