Asian Games 2026: India to face Pakistan in semifinals after thrashing Bangladesh

India ended its Asian Games 2026 men’s hockey group-stage campaign with a five wins out of as many matches as the defending champion thrashed Bangladesh 10-0 on Monday.

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh led the way with a hat-trick of Penalty Corner goals, while Shilanand Lakra bagged a quick-fire brace as he netted two goals in a minute in the third quarter. Abhishek, Jugraj Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, and Sanjay found the net as well.

After this win, India ended as the Pool A topper with 15 points and will now face Pool-B runner-up, Pakistan, in the semifinals after the Green Shirts ended with a tally of 12 points.

Both Pakistan and India are the most successful teams in the history of the men’s competition at the Asian Games. While the Green Shirts have eight gold medals, India has four.

India’s most recent title came in Hangzhou 2023 when the side beat Japan 5-1 in the summit clash. The last time Pakistan had reached the final of the Asiad was in 2014, when it lost 2-4 to India via a penalty shootout.
