Metallica to Return to North America for More M72 Tour Dates in 2027

Limp Bizkit and Avatar will support the group on a run of stadiums all over the continent

Thirteen seasons have passed since Metallica released their latest album, 72 Seasons — whose title represents the first 18 years of a person’s life — and the band is planning on extending its M72 Tour in support of the album at least a few more. The thrashers, who are set to perform at the Sphere in October, have booked another leg of North American stadium tour dates to begin in the spring.

Tickets for the shows, which will see Limp Bizkit and Avatar opening for the band, will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. local time on Sept. 25, though various presales begin Monday. Full details are on the band’s website.

In October 2023, a few months after the band kicked off the first leg of the M72 Tour, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone about how the new material was transforming on the stage. “Playing these songs live is super fun,” he said, specifically of the album’s “Lux Æterna” and “Too Far Gone?” “We’re steering them, they’re not steering us. Certain people choose not to go down particular creative paths if a song can’t be [performed live.] We’ve done eight out of 12 songs so far, and we’ve figured out how to crack all of them in a live situation and feel really good about it.” (That number has since gone up to nine out of 12 since that interview.)

Rolling Stone praised 72 Seasons in a review that said the album delivered “some of the deepest, hardest-hitting music of their career.” “Metallica have always been masters of corpulent, groove-heavy riffs and labyrinthine song structures, but now, with more than 40 years of experience, they play with more purpose than in their speed-demon days,” the review said.
