Lionel Messi leaves the world in tears with message to his late father

Lionel Messi has broken his silence following the news of the passing of his father and the Argentine has thrown the world into mourning with his latest message.

Lionel Messi has shared a deeply emotional tribute to his late father, Jorge Messi, reflecting on their relationship and the enormous void his death has left in his life.

Jorge Messi, who died at the age of 68, was one of the most important figures in Lionel’s journey from Rosario to global football stardom. In his emotional message, Messi described his father as his dad, friend, mentor and representative, while acknowledging the sacrifices and guidance that shaped his career.

“I don't know what I'm going to do without you, I don't know how to go on,” Messi wrote, admitting that he now has doubts about how much longer he will continue playing football.

Messi also recalled his father’s declining health and how much he wanted him to witness another World Cup. He explained that Jorge had encouraged him to play at the tournament, and Messi had hoped Argentina’s run would give his father enough time to recover and eventually attend a match.

The World Cup campaign became particularly emotional for Messi because, despite Argentina reaching the final, Jorge was unable to be there. Messi recalled waiting for his father’s messages after matches and realising how serious his condition had become.

He also reflected on how his father supported him throughout his career, rarely missing his games and always offering advice, even when Messi did not necessarily want to hear it. Looking back, the Argentina captain acknowledged that his father was often right.

Messi’s tribute ended with a promise to keep his father’s influence alive through his own children.

“I’m going to miss you a lot, but you’ll always be present,” Messi wrote, adding that he would raise his children with the same values he and his family were taught.

For Messi, Jorge was not simply the father of a football superstar. He was the man who stood beside him from the beginning, and his loss has left an absence that even football cannot fill.
