Two people, including a firefighter, sustained minor injuries after a fire broke out at a shoe manufacturing facility's warehouse in Subic Bay Freeport Zone on Wednesday evening.

According to a report of GMA News' EJ Gomez on Unang Balita Thursday, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Fire Department said the two injured individuals received first aid following the incident.

The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday at the warehouse, which was estimated to be a three-story building.

A witness said the fire reportedly started on the facility's ground floor. Employees on the second floor smelled the smoke.

Workers were seen rushing out of the building.

Firefighters from the SBMA, Olongapo, Angeles City, and Lubao, Pampanga, as well as personnel from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) responded to the incident.

Firefighters used an aerial ladder to help contain the blaze.

As of past 4 a.m. Thursday, explosions were still heard from the burning warehouse.

Thick and black smoke spread across the Subic Freeport Expressway and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), at times causing near-zero visibility for motorists.

Traffic patrol personnel monitored the area as the smoke posed a hazard to passing vehicles.

Motorists traveling along the Subic Freeport Expressway, SCTEX, and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) heading toward Manila were advised to exercise caution.

Firefighters continued efforts to put out the fire as of Thursday morning. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA News
