Emmerdale releases ominous trailer for Joe Tate's horror revenge story

Emmerdale has released an ominous trailer for the upcoming week, with Joe Tate having revenge on his mind. As he seeks to avenge the death of his fiancée, he will go to extreme lengths to get what he wants.

Joe has been in grief since the passing of Dawn Fletcher, which came after she gave birth to a baby boy. The tragic death was a result of a dramatic wedding day, with Jimmy King also dying after he crashed into the marquee.

Ruby and Caleb Miligan were at least partly responsible for some of the events as a result of their feud with Joe, though they have felt immense guilt over what transpired on the devastating day.

Nevertheless, Joe has pressed ahead with enacting revenge on those he deems to be responsible, and a brand-new teaser trailer for the ITV soap has confirmed that he will take drastic measures.

The 20-second clip begins with him kneeling on the ground, with a voiceover from actor Ned Porteous saying Joe is hoping to make his adversaries "pay and suffer". It becomes clear that he's digging a grave, though it doesn't look to be an official one.

Several fans took to Instagram to offer their thoughts on the teaser clip, with one viewer commenting: "I never had Joe Tate down as the gangster type but okay, let's see how this goes."

"Joe can't do anything too drastic though because he had his son to think about and Caleb would relish sending Joe to prison!" added another fan, while a third noted: "Knew Joe would get his revenge, can't wait for this."

Though the clip doesn't confirm who's in the grave, it has been revealed via advanced spoilers that the grave doesn't belong to Dawn, but rather Ruby! It's unclear how this transpires, but Ruby wakes up stunned to find herself buried alive.

"Joe starts talking to the grave and you think it's Dawn's," explained actor Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby. "But then it goes beneath the ground and you see that Ruby has actually been buried alive in a coffin!

"She's been unconscious and it's not clear how she got there. We see her waking up, then coming to the terrifying realisation she is trapped," added the actor, who debuted as the character in January 2024.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
