RI eyes broader student mobility, joint research with Japan

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is seeking to expand bilateral cooperation with Japan in academic mobility, technology development, and joint research, officials said Friday.

Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto emphasized that Jakarta aims to increase the number of Indonesian students pursuing higher education in Japan by expanding access to information on English-language study programs and developing joint degree options.

"This idea still warrants follow-up discussions addressing funding and implementation schemes," Yuliarto said in a statement released following a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Ueno Atsushi in Jakarta.

Yuliarto noted that deeper academic ties would support joint research in science, technology, and mineral resources.

The ministry has also engaged with Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization to discuss collaborative technology testing between universities and industrial partners.

Ambassador Atsushi welcomed the initiative, highlighting that the two nations have already adopted 26 projects under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development framework.
