KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) have warned the public against deepfake videos impersonating their senior officers to promote private investment schemes and financial products.

In a statement, BNM said members of the public who encounter suspicious content were urged to report it to the relevant social media platform or alert BNM or the SC to help prevent its further spread.

BNM said the public could visit its official website at bnm.gov.my/verify for examples of deepfake content and impersonation involving the central bank.

The public was also advised to check BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert List and the SC’s Investor Alert List for entities or schemes flagged by the authorities.

“Verify whether the entity is authorised to offer financial or investment products through BNMLINK or the SC’s Investment Checker portal,” it said.

BNM also encouraged the public to follow the Amaran Scam Facebook page for updates on emerging scams and tips to avoid falling victim to fraudulent activities. — Bernama
