Indonesia, Egypt agree to enhance defense industry cooperation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to strengthen defense industry cooperation and build institutional capacity through joint education and training.
"We agreed to increase cooperation, particularly in the defense industry, as well as capacity building through joint education and training programs, alongside exchange visits between our leaders and experts," Subianto said.
Speaking during a joint press statement with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, Subianto identified defense cooperation as a primary focus of their bilateral talks.
The Indonesian president also expressed appreciation to Cairo for supporting and facilitating Indonesian Navy vessels deployed on U.N. peacekeeping missions across the Middle East.
Beyond defense, Subianto noted that both nations agreed to expand ties in trade and investment, maritime affairs, fisheries, and education.
In the economic sphere, Indonesia and Egypt are pursuing an economic partnership agreement to expand market access and investment flows, while welcoming an initiative to establish a Joint Investment Fund to support strategic projects.
On maritime affairs and fisheries, the two nations agreed to partner on sustainable development, marine resource conservation, efforts to combat illegal fishing, and knowledge exchange.
Educational ties will also expand through student exchanges, university partnerships, and joint research projects.
Subianto highlighted Egypt's offer of additional scholarships for Indonesian students, specifically in medicine, engineering, and the sciences.
"These agreements demonstrate our shared commitment to continuously strengthen the Indonesia-Egypt strategic partnership," Subianto remarked.
