Nice as Fuck — Featuring Jenny Lewis and Members of Au Revoir Simone and the Like — Are Back for a Tour
Nice as Fuck, the supergroup trio featuring Jenny Lewis, Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Spring, and the Like’s Tennessee Thomas, will reunite for a short tour this fall marking the 10th anniversary of their self-titled first and only album. They’re also reissuing the record, which is now available for preorder. The tour will kick off in Pasadena, California on Oct. 16 before concluding just before Halloween in Brooklyn. Ticketing details for the tour, which will also feature DJ Alix Brown, are on BandIsInTown.
Nice as Fuck, the album, features nine songs featuring politically charged lyrics and catchy hooks. “Left is right/Right is suicide/Let’s get that home run, baby,” go the lyrics to “Homerun,” a song clearly timed to the 2016 election. And on “Guns,” about school shootings, Lewis sings, “The crisis is not ISIS, spilling our own blood.” “Gentle as a breeze, but resoundingly straightforward, Nice As Fuck’s whole album could be a nine-song meditation on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go You Own Way,'” Rolling Stone’s original review of the album proclaimed. The group played a little less than two dozen gigs in its first run, all in 2016.
“There was no plan,” Lewis said of Nice as Fuck’s origins in a 2016 Rolling Stone interview. “Usually you start a band, you write songs, you make a record, put it out and go on tour. This was completely unplanned. … It’s been great to just make a record and put it out.”
When the magazine asked if Nice as Fuck was a one-off record, the band members left it open. “We’re along for the ride just like everybody else,” Spring said. “The whole thing came into our lives spontaneously. So we’ll see.”
