Orlando Pirates could bank over R21 million in next two months

Orlando Pirates could earn more than R20 million over the next two months as they compete for major honours in domestic and continental competitions.

The Buccaneers are already in the MTN8 final, where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns on 10 October as they look to win the competition for a record fifth consecutive time.

Victory in the final would see Pirates pocket R10 million in prize money, providing another major incentive for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side.

Just days later, the Buccaneers will turn their attention to the CAF Champions League, where they face Namibian champions African Stars in the second preliminary round.

The two-legged tie is scheduled to take place between 16-18 October and 23-25 October.

Pirates will have even more motivation to progress, with qualification for the Champions League group stage worth USD700,000, approximately R11.3 million.

That means Pirates could bring in around R21.3 million if they win the MTN8 and reach the Champions League group stages.

The Buccaneers are also competing in the Betway Premiership and remain in the title race. They currently trail leaders Sundowns by six points but have two games in hand.

Next month, Pirates will also enter the Carling Knockout Cup, which they won last season and will be looking to defend.

For Ouaddou, however, the immediate priorities are clear: win the MTN8 and guide Pirates into the Champions League group stages.

If they achieve both objectives, the Buccaneers could add more than R21 million to their coffers in prize money alone.
