Independence Day: Delhi’s development model should inspire other states, says CM

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said her government was working to create a development model for the national capital that other states will seek to emulate, focusing on speedy decision-making, timely project completion, and ensuring government benefits reach people.

Addressing the Delhi government’s Independence Day function at Chhatrasal Stadium, Gupta said decisions taken in Delhi could direct the entire country and asserted that the government was committed to setting new benchmarks in development and governance.

“The only religion of our government is public service, the sole objective is the all-round development of Delhi, and the only resolve is to make the life of every citizen of Delhi better,” she said.

“By the time the country completes 100 years of independence, Delhi’s model of development should be one that other states seek to emulate,” she said.

Gupta said the Tricolour was not merely a symbol of pride but also represented the country’s bright future.

“Our development model will set new benchmarks across the country,” she said, reiterating the government’s resolve to make Delhi a leading example of governance and development.

CM Gupta said the government focused on speedy decision-making, timely completion of schemes and ensuring that the benefits of welfare and development programmes reached people without delay.

Highlighting initiatives for women, Gupta said the Delhi government issued more than 1.8 million pink cards to women to facilitate free travel on buses.

On transport and clean mobility, she said Delhi was emerging as an “EV city”, with 4,500 electric buses and supporting infrastructure. She said the initiative could serve as a model for other cities seeking to promote cleaner public transport.

Gupta also said the government was working to eliminate Delhi’s garbage mountains. Around 75 acres of land had already been reclaimed as part of efforts to tackle legacy waste and improve the city’s environment, she said.

The CM underlined the government’s efforts to establish Delhi as a major cultural and entertainment destination, focusing on strengthening the city’s cultural identity and creating new opportunities in the sector.

Appealing to the youth, Gupta urged them to channel their energy towards nation building rather than limiting their potential to social media.

“The youth of Delhi should use their energy in nation building and not limit their strength to social media. The youth of Delhi have immense potential. They will not just do jobs but also become job givers,” she said.
