Pagasa: La Mesa Dam’s water level expected to ‘decrease gradually’

MANILA, Philippines — The water level of La Mesa Dam in Quezon City is expected to “decrease gradually” as it remains at a critical level but below the overflow status, the state weather bureau said on Saturday. 

In its 6 a.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the dam’s water level was at 79.67 meters (m) as of 6 a.m. on Saturday. It noted that it was still on the critical level as it breached the 79.50 m threshold.

Its water level dropped in the past 12 hours, compared to the 79.79 m on 5 p.m. of Friday.

However, the state weather bureau noted the water level is still below its overflow status of 80.15 m. It then said that “there is no effect on the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Valenzuela (North Expressway, La Huerta Subdivision), and Malabon City.”

While the state weather bureau said that this is the final situationer for this event unless significant rains occur, it still advised residents living in the aforementioned areas “to remain alert for thunderstorms that could bring rain.”

The Pagasa, in a separate weather forecast at 5 a.m., said that the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains over most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Visayas on Saturday. /das
