Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was quite blunt and honest his post-match ratings for the Indian team following their 2nd T20I clash against New Zealand on Saturday. Breaking down individual performances across the playing XI, Ashwin gave a straightforward assessment of each player's contribution on the day. Ashwin kick-started his analysis by acknowledging the positive intent shown at the top: by opening batter Abhishek Sharma who scored 27 runs off 21 balls in the match at Christchurch.
For Abhishek's opening partner Sanju Samson, Ashwin didn't mince his words, giving the wicket-keeper batter a 3 out of 10. To Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played at the No. 3 spot, Ashwin gave a 1 out of 10. India captain Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, received a 2 out of 10 rating.
"Abhishek Sharma, I'll give him a 9 for that intent. Sanju Samson, I'll give him a 3. Okay. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a 1. I don't like giving zeroes," Ashwin said during a post-match show on the Sony Sports Network.
"Shreyas Iyer is a 2. Not sure, but yeah, 2," Ashwin said.
In contrast, the middle-order performance drew glowing praise, with Ashwin handing out perfect scores for two key contributors, Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
"Tilak Varma is a 10 for me, that was one hell of a performance. Nitish Kumar Reddy, and again, a 10. 19th over, bowled pretty well, so that's a 10 for me," he said.

Evaluating the all-round and bowling efforts that followed, he highlighted a solid spell alongside a minor lapse. "Naman Dhir is an 8, bowled over, just a scratchy catch that one, so I'm giving him an 8, didn't close the game out," the former India spinner asserted.
The senior bowling pair struggled to make an impact, receiving low marks from the modern icon.
"Axar Patel is a 2 on today's performance. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a 2 again," Ashwin said.
Finally, Ashwin wrapped up his assessment by praising the standout performances in the pace attack, Arshdeep Singh and Prince Yadav, both of whom received a 9.
"Arshdeep Singh is a 9, great performance. Prince Yadav is a 9 again for me," Ashwin concluded.
