Alec Berg Signs Netflix Overall Deal, to Develop Fraternity Drug Ring Comedy With Charlie Hall

Alec Berg has signed an overall deal with Netflix, Variety has learned.

The highly-successful TV writer and producer has previously been under overall deals at 20th Television (formerly ABC Signature) and HBO, the latter of which for nearly a decade. He has already set up his first project under the deal, a comedy series co-written by and starring Charlie Hall.

The untitled comedy will focus on a drug ring operating out of a college fraternity, loosely inspired by real events that recently transpired at Penn State University.

Hall is a writer on the series in addition to starring, with Berg serving as executive producer and supervising writer. Berg’s producing partner Amy Solomon will also executive produce under Berg’s production banner.

This is the latest project that Berg, Solomon, and Hall have collaborated on of late. It was previously reported that the team was developing a comedy series at Hulu about men in an adult recreational basketball league.

Berg is a highly-regarded writer, director, and executive producer, having earned 24 Emmy nominations over the course of his career. His credits at HBO included “Barry,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “Silicon Valley.” Solomon has worked with him as a producer on both “Barry” and “Silicon Valley.” Berg is also well known for his time on “Seinfeld” and has written multiple films, including “EuroTrip,” “The Dictator,” and Mike Myers’ “The Cat in the Hat.”

Hall most recently appeared in the Apple TV series “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.” He has likewise been seen in two seasons of the popular Netflix anthology series “Monster.” His other TV credits include “Bel-Air,” “Life and Beth,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and “Veep.”
