How much does it cost to: Take your family to Gold Reef City?

Translate

Taking a family of four to the Gold Reef City Theme Park in Johannesburg would cost you between R900 to R1 100 for entry tickets alone, with additional expenses for food, parking, and extras pushing the total up higher.

A DAY OUT AT GOLD REEF CITY

Gold Reef City Theme Park is one of the most famous adventure attractions in Johannesburg.

Taking a family of four out to the theme park is a full-day experience for both children and adults with the thrilling rides, historical attractions and entertainment options.

The greatest expense is entry tickets. In 2026, adult tickets cost around R250 to R300 each, while children’s tickets are slightly cheaper at R200 to R250.

For a family of four, which may include two adults and two children, the total comes to roughly R900 to R1 100.

What does the entry tickets cover?

An unlimited access to the rides including roller coasters, water rides, and kid-friendly attractions without paying extra.

However, food and drinks are not included in the ticket price.

Meals at the park’s restaurants or fast-food outlets range between R80 to R120 per person, so a family of four should budget roughly R320 to R480 for lunch and snacks.

Extras like ice cream, popcorn, and drinks can easily push the food bill higher, especially with children.

While the standard entry fee has a lot to offer on it’s own, Gold Reef City also offers optional attractions.

The Apartheid Museum, located next to the park, charges about R150 per adult and R100 per child, which would add R500 for a family of four.

The Gold Reef City Casino is another option, though it is aimed at adults and not included in family packages. Entry is free, but spending time there depends entirely on personal choice.

Parking is a lower cost, usually around R20 to R50 for the day. Families traveling from outside Johannesburg should also budget for petrol or transport, which could add R200 to R400 depending on distance.

Altogether, a family of four can expect to spend between R1 300 and R1 600 for a standard day at Gold Reef City, covering tickets, food, parking, and transport.

If taking on optional extras such as Apartheid Museum or extra snacks and souvenirs, this could push the total closer to R2 000.
