Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy created history by registering the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi batter in Test cricket, finishing unbeaten on 220 against West Indies in Sylhet on Saturday. Hridoy surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim's previous national record of 219 not out against Zimbabwe in 2018 when he drove Jomel Warrican for a boundary in the 106th over of Bangladesh's innings. Playing only his third Test, Hridoy also became the first Bangladesh batter to convert his maiden Test century into a double century, reaching the landmark in 304 balls.
The 25-year-old is only the fourth Bangladesh batter to score a double century in Test cricket and the first from the country to achieve the feat against West Indies.
His marathon innings further underlined his growing stature in Bangladesh's batting line-up and marked one of the most significant individual performances in the nation's Test history.
