All the BBC TV shows axed amid broadcaster's £500m savings plan

In June, bosses announced that they would be cutting 550 roles, decommissioning shows and reviewing the positions of chief news presenters in the process.

In 2026 so far, television shows have been cut across comedy, entertainment, sport and news in the name of money-saving measures.

Six shows were fully cut from Radio 4 too: The World Tonight, The Midnight News, Money Box Live, AntiSocial, The Law Show and Crossing Continents.

Celebrity Mastermind

Axed in the same wave of cuts was Mastermind's starry spin-off, in which celebrities answer questions on both their specialist subject and general knowledge. The show was first broadcast in 2002, with the final series hosted by Clive Myrie still to air.

Football Focus

Back in April, BBC Sport announced that it was blowing the whistle on Football Focus, the long-running programme first airing in 1974. Alex Scott hosted the most recent iteration of the series, with the show wrapping in May. While the cancellation preceded the BBC's savings announcement, the corporation said that "changing audience behaviours" had led to "difficult decisions" and Football Focus getting the chop.

I Kissed A Boy

The first British dating show to exclusively feature gay men, I Kissed A Boy was hosted by Dannii Minogue and ran for two series before it was cancelled in March. BBC bosses said that they were "exceptionally proud" of the show, but that they had made "difficult choices in light of our funding challenges".

I Kissed A Girl

The all-female follow-up to IKAB came the following year, with both shows being cancelled in one fell swoop earlier this year. However, the final series of I Kissed A Girl was still to air, with The Guardian's TV critic giving it five stars and declaring that the show "should never have been cancelled".

Live At The Apollo

Announced alongside Celebrity Mastermind and Blankety Blank, it was the cancellation of Live at the Apollo – the stand-up showcase that has launched many a comic's career – that was met with the most outcry. The show has aired since 2004, with the BBC clarifying that it would still focus on "stand-up and emerging comedy talent" in its digital content.

RuPaul's Drag Race UK

The latest show to be felled in the cuts, the UK spin-off of RuPaul's Drag Race arrived this side of the pond in 2019. In that time, it has aired for 11 series in total (including three UK vs The World spin-offs), with series eight kicking off last week.

Ski Sunday

Part of the winter sports calendar since 1978, Ski Sunday was axed by BBC Sport earlier this month, with the platform's head of events Philip Bernie saying: ""These decisions are never easy, but as audience viewing habits evolve and we work to deliver value for licence fee payers, we have to make tough choices."

The Rap Game

Days after I Kissed A Boy and I Kissed A Boy were cancelled, the BBC announced that hip-hop competition series The Rap Game was also coming to an end after six series. A BBC spokesperson said: "In light of funding challenges there are no plans for a new series."
