Riftbound Reveals New Radiance Champion Card [Exclusive]

Even if you aren't actively paying attention to Riftbound: Radiance, you'll want to check out this pretty big exclusive Champion reveal.

I still can't believe that Riftbound is nearly a year old. Origins and the stock issues that befell it arrived at the tail end of October 2025, which feels like forever ago. Since then, Riot Games has hosted numerous sets (Spiritforged, Unleashed, Vendetta), and now we're set for Radiance, which brings new keywords and cards into the mix.

As an active player, it really does feel like it has a year under its belt. Products and rules have been reworked, organized play is thriving in certain regions, and the game has a massive array of Champions to choose from. That number is growing with the next set.

Riftbound: Radiance is set to launch worldwide on October 23, but we can exclusively reveal a brand-new Champion Unit in the set, along with its alternate art.

  • RAD-020-Mordekaiser, Twice Slain-R

  • RAD-020a-Mordekaiser, Twice Slain-R

Our exclusive reveal is Mordekaiser: Twice Slain, a new Champion Unit that hails from Noxus. He sports the Fury Domain (Red), and definitely follows creative director Dave Guskin's original concept for Fury: "aggression, conquer, recklessness, damage."

For 7-cost (and a recycled Fury Rune), Mordekaiser has five Might, but also sports the Accelerate (you may pay one [Might] as an additional cost to have me enter ready) and Assault 3 keywords (+3 Might while I'm an attacker). His ability is: "Once each turn, if I would die, you may kill a friendly unit to heal me, exhaust me, and recall me instead."

In other words, he's hard to kill unless you single out other units on the board and catch him out. If he has no souls to sacrifice, Mordekaiser is gone for good. At a 7-cost, you'll want to set this up properly so you don't bring him in and immediately get board-wiped.

Mordekaiser is one of the most fascinating Champions in League of Legends history. I played with him when he first came out, as he became a meme, and beyond, into his rework. Known as the Champion that's been "twice slain and thrice born," this force of nature is hinted at in the lore as one of the most powerful beings in the Rift. His abilities even referenced heavy metal, adding to his allure as a villainous aspect of League.

Riftbound Unleashed Vi

As for what's next with Riftbound, Radiance is adding even more changes, as well as additional keywords. Deploy lets players Gear on a battlefield, but they lose it if the enemy takes control. Reveal/Show Off is a mechanic found in many card games that allows players to boost an effect by showing a card to an opponent.

Finally, Disarm lets you debuff an enemy unit's Might (power) while attacking, and it can stack. We're also getting Bomb Tokens, gear tokens you can deploy onto the battlefield, with a death knell (an effect that triggers when it dies) that deals 2 damage to an enemy unit and kills all other bombs.

League of Legends: Riftbound is about to enter a new era of chaos, and I'm here for it. First, I'm building a bomb deck, but I'll make a Mordekaiser build too. You can also pick up the Seraphine vs. Evelynn Showdown Deck, plus Booster Packs, Vault Bundles, and Pre-Rift Kits for pre-release.
