Bradley Walsh's twisty new game show Million Pound Shot to feature UK TV first as contestants bet their own money to win

After plenty of speculation, Channel 4 has finally shed some light on the mystery around its Million Pound Shot game show, airing on Sunday 1 November.

Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the one-off quiz event has been described as a British television first in which contestants put their own money on the line for the chance to win up to £1 million.

Bradley Walsh's Million Pound Shot airs on Sunday 1 November at 9pm on Channel 4, with three contestants competing in front of a live studio audience for a seven-figure jackpot. What sets it apart, the broadcaster says, is that players will be staking their own money in pursuit of the prize, something no previous UK quiz show has done before.

Contestants will bring their own bank cards and bet according to how confident they are in their answers to general knowledge questions. Correct answers win Bet Balls carrying a monetary value, which players can either cash out or risk by firing them into the Million Pound Shot Machine in an attempt to win £1 million.

As Walsh puts it during the show, this is the programme where you have to "put your money where your mouth is." Channel 4 had previously kept the full mechanics under wraps before broadcast, prompting some viewers to speculate online that the whole format might be a hoax.

Walsh, best known to quiz fans as the host of ITV's The Chase, said the format won him over immediately. "This programme is unlike anything we've seen on British TV before, and when I heard about this format I thought it was one of the most original and surprising quiz shows I'd ever encountered," he said. "Alongside playing with their own money, there are more twists and turns along the way. I'm excited for everyone to see how it plays out."

He warned that the gamble will not suit everyone. "They're going to have to be willing to take big risks, and back themselves right to the very end," he said. "This is not a game for the faint-hearted!"

Channel 4 has teased plenty of twists to unfold throughout, with Walsh promising a night of drama unlike anything he’s hosted before, bursting with tension, big moments and huge curveballs.

Asked what kind of player he hopes to see step up, Walsh said the show rewards nerve above all. "This game is all about confidence and bravado. Putting your money where your mouth is will not be simple when it's your own cold hard cash," he said. "So the contestants are going to have to be cool, calm and willing to take a risk. The game is always in their control and I'm hoping for confident, bright players with a good breadth of general knowledge and a sense of fun."

Bradley Walsh’s Million Pound Shot will be available to watch and stream on Sunday 1 November at 9pm on Channel 4.
