Wan Junaidi, Hajiji extend condolences to Dr Mahathir over Dr Hasmah’s death

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Leaders in Sabah and Sarawak have extended their condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, today.

In Kuching, Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, paid tribute to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s contributions to medicine and public health.

In a Facebook post, they said her contributions, particularly to maternal and child healthcare and rural communities, would continue to be remembered.

“We also extend our condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, their children and the entire family, and pray that they are given strength and fortitude in facing this loss,” they said.

In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor described Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s death as a profound loss felt not only by Dr Mahathir and their family but by Malaysians across the country.

“She was a highly respected figure who inspired Malaysians through her service, contributions and dedication to the country,” he said in a statement today.

Hajiji expressed hope that her contributions and service would continue to be remembered and inspire future generations.

He also prayed that Allah would bestow His mercy upon her soul, forgive her shortcomings and place her among the righteous.

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning at the age of 100. She is survived by her husband and seven children. — Bernama
