Anuel AA Talks Corridos Era, Fuerza Regida Collab & Posts About Ex Karol G: ‘Maybe She’ll Unblock Me’

Anuel AA has plenty to talk about, from the recent changes he’s made in his life to his move into Mexican corridos — and his playful jokes about his ex, Colombian superstar Karol G. In an interview with Billboard‘s co-chief content officer Leila Cobo, released Friday (Nov. 6), aboard a yacht in Miami, he also explains why he’s fallen in love with music all over again.

The Puerto Rican trap star says he decided about six months ago to stop smoking and drinking, and that he feels more alert now. “You mature over time, you know what I mean? And life teaches you things,” he admits. “Drugs don’t fulfill you, fame doesn’t fulfill you, money doesn’t fulfill you.”

That change comes amid a busy stretch for his music. Anuel says Real Hasta la Muerte 2 is coming Nov. 19, and he may also release Cartel Real Hasta la Muerte — a Mexican corridos album he’s still finishing — on the same day. Exploring the genre has meant learning a different way to sing and working with Mexican musicians. “I fell in love with music all over again — with something new, not the same old thing,” he says.

“There are going to be songs produced by Fuerza Regida. I’m talking with Jesús [Ortiz Paz] — he’s my brother, and he’s helping me with a few songs,” he adds.

The conversation also touches on his kids, business ventures and relationships with his exes. When Cobo asks if he asked Karol G to unblock him on social media, Anuel laughs: “No, I’m just messing with her. But maybe she’ll unblock me.”

“Do you want all your exes to be at peace with you?” Cobo asks. “Well, not all of them — not my ex… We should live in peace, right?” he replies. The exchange stays playful, and Anuel jokes that a movie about his love life would be called Los Amores perros de Anuel (or Anuel’s Love’s a B–ch): “It’ll sell a lot. It’ll be incredible.”

Between news about his upcoming projects and personal revelations, the interview offers a look at Anuel as he rethinks his life and music. Watch the full conversation above.
