Plumptre Returns To Al-Ittihad Training After Injury Layoff
Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has returned to training with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Plumptre underwent surgery in March after sustaining a foot injury, which ruled her out of action for several months.
The versatile defender subsequently missed the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, dealing a significant blow to Nigeria’s preparations for the continental competition.
In Plumptre’s absence, the Super Falcons endured a disappointing campaign at the tournament, with Justine Madugu’s side eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

The nine-time African champions also failed to secure a place in the inter-confederation playoffs, bringing their campaign to a frustrating end.
Plumptre’s return to training will therefore come as a welcome development for both Al-Ittihad and the Super Falcons as she continues her recovery and works towards regaining full match fitness.
The 28-year-old has established herself as an important member of the Nigerian national team due to her versatility and ability to operate both in central defence and at left-back.
Her return could provide Madugu with another experienced defensive option ahead of the Super Falcons’ upcoming international engagements.
Plumptre will, however, be expected to be gradually reintegrated into competitive action after spending several months away from the pitch.
The defender will hope to put her injury troubles behind her and play a prominent role for Al-Ittihad during the new season before making her return to international duty with Nigeria.
