In short:

Deborah Lee Jackson, 66, has been granted bail after she allegedly attempted to grab a teenage girl's hijab during a confrontation on Brisbane's bayside in February.

The woman has been charged with common assault and serious vilification or hate crime aggravation.

What's next?

The matter is due to return to court on December 7.

A 66-year-old woman facing hate crime charges has been granted bail after she allegedly tried to snatch a hijab from a teenage girl at Brisbane's bayside in February this year.

Deborah Lee Jackson fronted Wynnum Magistrates Court today, charged with one count of common assault with a serious vilification or hate crime aggravation.

It comes after a counter terrorism police investigation into Ms Jackson, who allegedly tried to grab a hijab during a confrontation with a group of teenage girls at Bayside Park.

Charges were laid on September 22 after counter terrorism officers searched a home in Manly.

Ms Jackson is alleged to have approached the group twice, trying to take a hijab off a 14-year-old girl on the first occasion and verbally abusing the group on the second.

Video filmed by one of the teenagers allegedly shows Ms Jackson trying to snatch the phone from the girl's hands and accusing the group of "taking over the country".

The young women and some of their mothers had gathered at Bayside Park on February 21 after Iftar, a meal eaten after sunset during the Islamic month of Ramadan.

During the filmed confrontation, Ms Jackson demands to know why the girls are hanging around on the Manly foreshore so late at night.

One of the girls tells her that they are allowed to be there, and that they are Australian citizens.

"What, you can just take over the country?" Ms Jackson said.

"That's what you are doing."

Ms Jackson's lawyer asked that the matter be adjourned so that they could make submissions to the police prosecution.

Magistrate Zachary Sarra granted Ms Jackson bail until December 7 when the matter is due to return in court.
