Asian Games 2026: Quimcy Dsouza nears historic Teqball medal for India

Quimcy Dsouza marched into the women’s singles semifinals after topping her group in Teqball, a sport making its Asian Games debut, at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center in Nagoya, Japan, on Friday.
The 24-year-old Quimcy came from a game down to beat Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 2-1 (10-12, 12-11, 13-11) in 43 minutes in her first match in Group B.
In her second fixture, Quimcy took down Koemyean Dy 2-0 (12-9, 12-7) in 24 minutes.
By virtue of topping her group, Quimcy got a bye in the quarterfinals.

She’ll have two shots at winning a historic medal for India in Teqball. On Saturday, she will face Indonesia’s Sumaya in the semifinals. A win in that contest will confirm a podium finish for the Indian.
In case she suffers defeat, she will face the loser of the second semifinal between Wai Khin Hin of Myanmar and Kamar Dandal of Lebanon in the bronze medal match on Sunday.
