COTABATO CITY — Government forces killed a suspected sub-leader of the extremist group Dawlah Islamiya (DI) and three of his followers during a joint law enforcement operation in Sultan Mastura town, Maguindanao del Norte on Friday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Eugene Balugo, officer-in-charge of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Regional Field Unit 15 in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG-RFU-BAR), said the operation was conducted at around 3:30 p.m. in Barangay Tapayan to serve several warrants of arrest against the suspect.

In a report to Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II, CIDG Director, Balugo said the suspect and his companions allegedly resisted arrest, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire between them and the approaching law enforcement personnel.
