‘Squadron 42’ Release Nears as Cloud Imperium Opens Steam Wishlist

Translate

Cloud Imperium Games’ “Squadron 42” is now available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its planned Q2 2027 release.

The single-player sci-fi adventure game is set in the year 2945, as the United Empire of Earth is threatened by outlaws and hostile aliens alike. Players enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy and embark on a dangerous journey through the galactic war. Aboard a massive capital ship, players work alongside a dynamic crew to earn their rank.

The game takes place within the universe of “Star Citizen,” Cloud Imperium Games’ multiplayer online experience that has been gestating for nearly 15 years. The CIG team has been developing “Star Citizen” simultaneously with “Squadron 42,” which follows a focused single-player narrative adventure rather than a multiplayer game style. Much of the technology and game systems utilized in “Star Citizen” is repurposed for “Squadron 42,” game designer and CIG founder Chris Roberts told Variety in May.

Its star-studded cast includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Ben Mendelsohn, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, John Rhys-Davies, Jonathan Bailey, Mark Strong, Alix Wilton Reagan, Ben Mendelsohn, Damson Idris, Liam Cunningham, Jane Perry and more.

“Squadron 42” is powered by StarEngine proprietary technology, which has been developed in-house at Cloud Imperium Games. The independent studio was co-founded in 2012 by game designer Roberts, the mind behind the ‘90s PC game “Wing Commander,” alongside wife Sandi Roberts.

“Squadron 42” is slated for release in Q2 2027. Players can now wishlist the game on Steam.
