Game Of Thrones: Dragonfire Chronicles Official First Look

Translate

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire Chronicles provides fans with a behind-the-scenes look at some of House of the Dragon's most iconic dragon designs.

Nicholas Becher is a gaming journalist with an MFA in Creative Writing from FAU. With extensive experience playing video games, he covers all forms of gaming content at Screen Rant, from breaking news to the latest fan theories. Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond.

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire launched earlier this year to critical acclaim, introducing incredible originally designed dragons and characters alongside returning fan-favorites from House of the Dragon. Dragonfire offers players a free-to-play mobile 4X experience set in the House of the Dragon timeline, letting them hatch, raise, and command dragons while building their own power across Westeros.

Players take on the role of a new dragonrider during the Targaryen Civil War, expanding their territory through tactical, tile-based battles while forging alliances and competing for control of the Seven Kingdoms. The game launched with 28 dragons, mixing familiar creatures like Caraxes and the most recent addition to the roster, Meleys: The Red Queen, with completely original designs created specifically for Dragonfire

Since its June launch, regular seasonal updates have continued expanding the experience with new dragons, storylines, events, and opportunities to interact with familiar faces from House of the Dragon, and ScreenRant is getting an exclusive look behind the scenes at how the team goes about developing both original dragons and those from the A Song of Ice and Fire universe as seen in HBO's House of the Dragon.

Dragonfire Chronicles: Designing Dragons Exclusive First Look

The newest episode of Dragonfire Chronicles takes us behind the scenes for a special first look Dev Diary on how designers for Dragonfire go about translating HBO's House of the Dragon dragons to the game itself. The artists explain how they receive detailed model assets from House of the Dragon and work backwards to create a suitable version of these designs for Dragonfire, modeling them not only visually but also conceptualizing the specific breed, types, and skills that each dragon has based on their in-show appearance.

Designers delve into each of the four dragon types in Dragonfire - Warriors, Sentinels, Hunters, and Champions - and how each of these are developed according to their specific category, such as Warriors being large and formidable beasts compared to the speedy and smaller-sized Sentinels.

Further, the video gives players a sense of how dragon eggs are designed to make the experience more authentic to the show, as well as how players gradually grow their hatchlings into powerful creatures and immerse themselves in the dragonrider experience through finding different synergies between dragons, troops, etc.

Dragonfire Launches The Dragon's Divide Campaign This Week

The next major chapter for Game of Thrones: Dragonfire arrives on September 24 with The Dragon's Divide, the game's third major campaign since launch. Like previous campaigns, The Dragon's Divide will unfold across an approximately eight-week Reign, introducing new objectives, rewards, story beats, and competitive goals as players continue battling for control of Westeros.

The update follows Heirs of the Dragon and Shadow of the Greens, the first two campaign arcs introduced for Dragonfire, while pushing the game's ongoing seasonal structure forward. Campaigns are broken into time-limited stages, with players pursuing both individual and faction-wide objectives. Some territorial and stronghold progression resets once a Reign concludes, while permanent additions including collected dragons, eggs, and dragon progression carry between campaigns.

Most notably, The Dragon's Divide launches alongside Meleys: the Red Queen, bringing Rhaenys Targaryen's legendary dragon from House of the Dragon into Dragonfire as its newest playable creature. Meleys joins an expanding roster that already includes recognizable dragons such as Caraxes, Syrax, Vhagar, and Sunfyre alongside dozens of original designs created specifically for the game.

Players don't have to wait until September 24 to get started, though, as Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is available now as a free-to-play mobile experience, giving newcomers time to build their stronghold, collect dragons, and prepare before The Dragon's Divide begins later this week.
