Government considers scrapping legal immunity for social media platforms
The IT Ministry has begun discussions on a major overhaul of India’s social media regulatory framework, including a proposal to withdraw the legal immunity available to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X for content posted by their users, The Indian Express has learnt. The proposed move could fundamentally change the way social media companies operate in India and potentially expose platforms to greater legal liability over user-generated content. Adani’s Navi Mumbai airport plan faces opposition from Air France, Emirates and other airlines
A standoff has emerged between airlines and the Adani Group over a proposal to shift international flights to the Navi Mumbai airport. Foreign carriers, including Air France and Emirates, have approached the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), opposing a proposal by Adani-owned Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to reduce capacity at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and facilitate the shift. In an email to MoCA Secretary Sameer Sinha earlier this week, the Airport Operators’ Committee (AOC)-Mumbai described MIAL’s proposal to reduce Terminal 1’s capacity by five million passengers per annum as a unilateral decision lacking adequate justification. The dispute raises questions over how international flight operations and passenger capacity will be distributed between Mumbai’s two airports.
Tiger Shroff shooting case: Police trace cryptocurrency money trail to Cambodia, Denmark and SBI
The Mumbai Police has alleged that a cryptocurrency account operating overseas through a local public sector bank account was used to transfer money to the accused arrested in connection with the attack on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. Special Judge S R Navander sent accused Suneha Pandit, arrested on Sunday, to police custody until November 16. The court observed that, prima facie, police records linked her arrest to the money trail and that custodial interrogation was necessary to investigate the finances, establish her role and gather information about the absconding accused. Investigators are examining the alleged financial links involving Cambodia, Denmark and the State Bank of India (SBI).
