Heavy rainfall alerts still up in Luzon areas on Friday afternoon (Sept. 4)

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall warnings remained raised over several areas in Luzon on Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, due to the continued effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) gave the update in its 2 p.m. weather advisory.

It downgraded the red rainfall warning issued in Zambales and Pampanga early Friday, which means torrential rains of more than 30 millimeters (mm), to orange warning.

Under an orange rainfall warning, 15 to 30 mm of rain may prevail over the affected areas within the next three hours.

The province of Bulacan and Tarlac were also placed under the same rainfall alert.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning was also issued over the following areas, which indicates that 7.5 to 15 mm of rainfall may prevail:

• Metro Manila
• Cavite
• Rizal 
• Batangas (Balayan, Tuy, Lian, Nasugbu, Calatagan, Calaca, Lemery, Agoncillo, Taal, San Nicolas, Santa Teresita, San Luis, Bauan, Mabini, Tingloy, Alitagtag)
• Laguna (Calamba, Cabuyao, Santa Rosa, Binan, San Pedro)
• Bulacan (Angat, Bocaue, Meycauayan, San Jose del Monte, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Marilao, Norzagaray, Obando, San Ildefonso, San Miguel, San Rafael, Santa Maria, Baliuag, Bustos, Pandi)
• Nueva Ecija (Guimba, Cuyapo, Nampicuan, General Tinio, Palayan, Penaranda, Santa Rosa, Cabanatuan, Aliaga, Licab, Zaragoza, San Antonio, Jaen, San Leonardo, Gapan, San Isidro, Cabiao, Quezon, Talavera, Santo Domingo) 
• Tarlac (Concepcion, Anao, Tarlac City, Gerona, La Paz, Paniqui, Pura, Ramos, San Manuel, Victoria, Moncada, Santa Ignacia, Camiling, San Clemente, Mayantoc)

Nueva Ecija may also expect light to moderate with occasional heavy rains within the next three hours, according to Pagasa.

The weather bureau also reported similar conditions affecting areas in Batangas, Laguna and Quezon, which may persist within the next three hours:

• Batangas (Cuenca, San Jose, Talisay, Laurel)
• Laguna (Pila, Magdalena, Santa Cruz, Pagsanjan, Victoria, Lumban, Los Banos)
• Quezon (Real, Mauban, Sariaya, Calauag) /apl
