Nethra Kumanan won the bronze medal in the women’s dinghy event in sailing at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday.

The Chennai-based sailor finished third behind Sophia Montogomery of Thailand and Jania Ang of Singapore to secure India’s third medal in sailing this edition.

The 29-year-old struggled on the first day, finishing 6th in Final 1, but bounced back strongly in Final 2 to finish first.

She finished level with Stephanie Louise Norton of Hong Kong, but took the medal on the tiebreak criteria.

Nethra has previously represented India at the Asian Games in 2014, 2018, and 2023, and became the first Indian woman to qualify for the Olympics when she made the cut for Paris 2024.
