Eskom announces a nine-hour power outage in parts of Gauteng on Monday

Translate

Eskom has announced a planned electricity supply interruption in parts of Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on Monday, 2 November.

The power utility says the outage will allow its teams to carry out essential maintenance on the distribution network. Residents in the affected areas will be without electricity for nine hours.

Vosloorus areas affected by the Eskom outage

According to Eskom’s Gauteng Cluster, the interruption will affect customers in parts of the following areas:

  • Vosloorus Extension 18
  • Vosloorus Extension 25
  • Vosloorus Extension 47
  • Vosloorus Extension 48
  • Vosloorus Extension 49

The outage will run from 9:00 to 18:00 on Monday, 2 November.

Eskom says the interruption is necessary to perform essential maintenance on its distribution power lines. The utility thanked customers for their cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause.

However, Eskom warned that the planned maintenance may not go ahead as communicated if circumstances beyond its control arise.

Treat all appliances as live

In the interest of safety, Eskom advises customers to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the outage. Power can be restored without warning, including earlier than the scheduled end time.

Residents can prepare by charging phones, power banks and other devices before 9:00 on Monday. Households should also plan meals in advance, keep fridges and freezers closed as much as possible, and switch off sensitive appliances to protect them from power surges when electricity returns.

Residents who work from home or run small businesses may need to make alternative arrangements for the day.

How to contact Eskom

Eskom has shared several channels for customers who need assistance or want to report a problem:
