Quad foreign ministers will meet this week in Atlanta on the sidelines of a G20 ministerial gathering, official sources confirmed, signalling the strategic forum remains resilient despite recent India-US diplomatic turbulence.

This will be the second meeting of the grouping this year, after the event India hosted in May.The foreign ministers will look to outline the agenda for the Quad leaders’ summit in Manila next month on the margins of Asean meetings. EAM S Jaishankar will travel to Atlanta for the G20 and Quad foreign ministers’ meetings that US secretary of state Marco Rubio will host on Oct 30-31.The event in Manila, likely on Nov 16, will be the first Quad leaders’ summit in two years, following the downturn in India-US ties that prevented India from hosting the summit last year. The summit will be significant in terms of both its timing and venue. It will take place in the middle of raging maritime tensions between Manila and Beijing, and days before another visit to China by President Donald Trump this year for the APEC summit.
