Ukraine contracting around 1,000 Patriot missiles from allies, defense chief says

Germany will deliver Patriot air-defense missiles to Ukraine from its national stocks, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Tuesday.

Ukraine is contracting the supply of around 1,000 missiles for US-designed Patriot air-defense systems with the help of allies and through a European Union loan, Kyiv's defense minister said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Yevhenii Khmara also said that the majority of the missiles would only be shipped in the coming years, and called for more urgent aid.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also said Germany will deliver Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine from its national stocks.

"I decided to deliver urgently needed PAC-2 interceptor missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine," Pistorius said at a videoconference of defense ministers from countries supporting Ukraine.

Pistorius said Germany would also step up the provision of air-to-air missiles and would continue to deliver drones and long-range ammunition to Ukraine.

Britain to commit £100 million to Ukraine to help boost its air defense package

Britain also announced it was committing £100 million ($135 million) to Ukraine to help boost its air defense package for the winter, providing Patriot missiles, large-caliber artillery rounds and drones to help fend off attacks from Russia.

UK defense minister Wes Streeting, alongside his German counterpart Boris Pistorius, will later co-chair a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which focuses on the country's battlefield requirements.
