Assassin's Creed Officially Switching Genres In Echoes Of The Past
Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.
Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.
Despite it having been almost two decades since Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed for the first time, the franchise is still going strong courtesy of fourteen mainline installments and a handful of spin-offs. With the action-adventure series taking place across many different time periods, locations, and historical eras, it has been an unofficial history teacher for us all growing up, and with Assassin's Creed Hexe expected to be the next major installment, Ubisoft shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to the award-winning franchise.
Assassin's Creed Continues To Inspire
On top of the video games we all know and love, the Assassin's Creed franchise has also gone on to inspire art books, encyclopedias, comics, and novels. Back in 2016, a live-action movie was also released, but the less we talk about that, the better.
What this does show, however, is that there is something about the Ubisoft franchise that keeps fans coming back, even after some less-than-successful entries, and so it comes as no surprise that Assassin's Creed is set to receive another genre-bending release.
Welcome Heredis, an original stage work based on the Assassin's Creed franchise which aims to bring "its historical, physical and cinematic dimensions to the stage." Created by Sébastien Soldevila, Heredis tells the story of a young man searching for a father who disappeared years previous. However, on his 25th birthday, the boy receives a mysterious letter inviting him to the Heredis program and this very quest begins a journey across centuries.
“Assassin’s Creed is deeply inspiring material. It’s a rich, physical, and historically charged world that naturally lends itself to the stage," Soldevila shared. To present this work, 17 performers will take to the stage to deliver a high-energy, two-hour performance "blending acrobatics, urban parkour, choreographed combat, and physical feats within large-scale immersive visual environments drawn from Assassin’s Creed games—transporting audiences through time."
This Brand-New Project Is Ubisoft Approved
The brand-new show by The 7 Fingers, a leading force in performing arts, has gained the approval of Ubisoft itself, with Aymar Azaïzia, the Transmedia and Business Development Director, saying, “Sébastien and his team have embraced this universe with both rigor and sensitivity. This collaboration opens a new way to connect with broader audiences."
So, if you want to experience an original Assassin's Creed story courtesy of a live stage performance, you will be pleased to hear that Heredis will premiere at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts in Montreal on 3 December 2026. However, fear not, as this merely marks the beginning of a world tour, continuing at the Casino de Paris beginning 21 January 2027, presented by Décibels Productions. If you want to find out if Heredis will be performed near you, make sure to check out the official website.
This project is something that the Assassin's Creed franchise has never seen before, and so can only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all involved. So, if you want to experience an original story which celebrates the beloved Ubisoft franchise, look no further than Heredis.
