Street Fighter is the upcoming video game adaptation, and it has quite positive vibes so far. There have been a few video game adaptations this year, including The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mortal Kombat II, and Resident Evil. Therefore, the upcoming Jason Momoa starrer has a high target to beat the massive lifetime total of the biggest video game adaptation of the year at the North American box office. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The movie is being released by Paramount Pictures. It has an ensemble cast with Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Eric André, Andrew Schulz, Vidyut Jammwal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Jason Momoa in key roles. The film has big shoes to fill after Resident Evil’s strong box-office debut in North America.

Which is the biggest video game adaptation of the year?

According to the Box Office Mojo data, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the biggest video game adaptation of the year. It collected a huge $429.8 million at the North American box office in its theatrical run. It is also the 4th highest-grossing movie of the year and 2026’s biggest video game adaptation in North America. It collected $131.7 million in its opening weekend alone.

How much Street Fighter must earn to beat 2026’s biggest video game adaptation in North America?

Street Fighter is tracking to earn $30 million to $40 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. The Jason Momoa starrer might have a strong domestic debut. Still, it will need an extraordinary run at the box office to beat the theatrical run of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. If things landed right, the movie might beat The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s opening weekend collection in its lifetime.

However, Mortal Kombat II‘s $79.8 million domestic haul seems to be within reach. It could also cross $100 million and beat Resident Evil. Street Fighter might not beat The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but it could outshine the other video game adaptations of the year.

More about the movie

The official synopsis of the film reads, “In 1993, estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are recruited by Chun-Li to enter the next World Warrior Tournament. Unbeknownst to them, this tournament will force the two fighters to face each other and their demons.” Street Fighter, with an ensemble cast, will be released on October 16.
