LPA forms outside PAR, not expected to affect PH Monday

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) developed outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early Monday morning, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 a.m. weather forecast that the LPA was last located 3,230 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

“Napakalayo ng low-pressure area kaya malabo po itong maka-apekto sa ating lagay panahon ngayong araw,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldzcar Aurelio said in a morning weather forecast.

He added that the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” currently does not affect the country’s weather condition, as it “only extends as far as Indochina.”

According to Aurelio, the easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, is the weather system currently affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.

The easterlies is forecast to specifically bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, are expected to experience fair weather conditions, except for the possibility of sudden downpours, especially in the afternoon or evening, due to the localized thunderstorms.
