Jaylen Brown Warns Jayson Tatum To "Stay Ready" Ahead Of Nov. 10 Showdown Amid "Beef" Talk

Translate

Jaylen Brown says there's no beef with Jayson Tatum. Then he brought up lamb chops and gravy. After the 76ers beat the Bucks 127-116 on Saturday, Brown was asked about Tatum saying the two are not feuding. He agreed with him, and he also left everyone wondering what he meant. It's the latest chapter in a back-and-forth between two stars who spent nine years together in Boston and won a title. The talk about beef started with a video and one emoji.

What Brown Said About Lamb Chops And Gravy

Brown started by agreeing. “He's right; there is no beef,” he said. Then came the praise, with a twist in it.

“Jayson comes from a wonderful family; we accomplished some great things. He's a hell of a basketball player. He got a great PR team. There's no beef, but there might be a little lamb chops with some gravy. He should stay ready at all times.”

He wasn't done. “There's no beef; it's just basketball… There might be a lamb chop, but we will be alright.”

He came back to the PR team line more than once, and the message was the same each time. He has respect for Tatum, but he's ready to compete. It sounds like a playful warning, and it's clear he's looking forward to their first meeting as opponents on November 10, when Boston visits Philadelphia.

How A Cap Emoji Started The Talk

It began with a video Tatum posted on his YouTube channel this week. He told how he found out about the trade. He had just finished pickup games in Las Vegas when a reporter walked over, handed him a towel and told him to cover his face and not react. He said he was “just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world.”

Brown didn't buy it. He answered with a cap emoji, which is slang for something that isn't true.

After Boston beat the Knicks on Friday, Tatum spent most of his news conference on it. Asked about the emoji, he sighed. Then he said, “I don't have any animosity or beef, or ill will towards him.” He thinks the story has turned into drama instead of what they did together. “We did it twice and won a championship,” he said. “This ain't no Shaq and Kobe. There's no beef.” He also said he called and texted Brown the day of the trade.

That trade came on July 1. Boston sent Brown to Philadelphia and got Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. The two weren't close that last year, and a reporter said in July their relationship away from basketball was almost non-existent. Brown became Boston's top scorer while Tatum recovered from a torn Achilles, and the Celtics lost in the first round.

Still, they won the 2024 title together and went to two Finals.

Until they meet again, both players keep saying the same thing: there's no beef.
