Health ministry to check bread factory after claims of food poisoning

Translate

The health ministry will investigate a bread factory in Shah Alam following claims of food poisoning on social media.

The ministry said it is waiting for laboratory results on the product and will inspect the factory regarding its compliance with the Food Act.

“Enforcement action will be taken if there is any breach of food safety,” it said in a statement today.

The ministry said it sought an explanation from Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd regarding the food poisoning allegations.

“They informed us that their internal investigation found no non-compliance with the SOPs, deviations from production, or any change in the recipe,” it said.

It said it had taken some products for analysis.

Gardenia had said in a statement earlier that they met the customer in question and took the bread for analysis.

“Our departments are looking into the information, production’s record and quality control factor to identify the issue and next course of action.

“We would also like to assure the public that there were no changes to our recipe, and food safety SOPs will continue to be enforced,” it said.

Gardenia also said it will cooperate with the health ministry’s investigation.

A Threads user had claimed that her sons fell sick after eating bread produced by company.
